The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) sent out a press release on June 2, 2009, announcing a recall of Bugaboo Bee strollers. Bugaboo cooperated with the CPSC in announcing the voluntary recall of the strollers, which involves approximately 22,500 units.
According to the press release, the identified hazard has to do with the stroller’s brakes. One or both sides of the brakes can fail, which can lead to the stroller unexpectedly rolling away on an incline. If the brakes fail, it can cause injury to the child occupying the stroller.
To date, Bugaboo has received 121 reports of stroller brake failure, but luckily no injuries have been reported.
The Bugaboo strollers included in the recall have item code 580210, which can be found on the label on the back of the seat and item code 50100 that can be located on the plastic support under the seat. The Bugaboo strollers came in blue, dark khaki, pink, red, yellow and black.
The recalled strollers were sold across the country by retailers and on various websites from August 2007 to April 2009 for approximately $530.
The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the strollers immediately and to contact Bugaboo for a free repair kit. For more information, contact Bugaboo at (800) 460-2922.
