Second Recall Expansion of Jardine Cribs Sold by Babies ‘R’ Us

Since June 2008, there have been 472,450 Jardine crib units recalled.  The latest recall includes 96,000 Jardine cribs sold nationwide by KidsWorld, Geoffrey Stores, Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us.  This voluntary recall was prompted by reports of the crib slats breaking.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has received 31 incident reports of slats breaking on the Jardine cribs, which includes two reports of children becoming entrapped in the gap left from the broken slat on the crib.  Among these incidents, there were ten reports of children breaking the slats while in the crib and one report of a child sustaining minor injuries.

According to the press release from the CPSC, the wooden crib slats can break, which can create a gap and an entrapment and strangulation hazard for infants and toddlers. 

The cribs included in the recall are as follows:

• Model #0102B00, Drop-side Natural Olympia Single, Date code between 9/2005-1/2007
• Model #0102E00, Drop-side Dark Pine Olympia Single, Date code between 9/2005-1/2008
• Model #0302P00, Black Olympia Lifetime, Date code between 11/2005-5/2008
• Model #0302C00, White Olympia Lifetime, Date code between 6/2006-12/2006
• Model #0312D00, Americana Pecan 4-in-1, Date code between 5/2006-11/2007
• Model #0308L00, Antique Walnut Capri 4-in-1, Date code between 12/2005-11/2007
• Model #0108C00, Drop-side White Capri Single, Date code between 8/2006-11/2007

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled cribs and to contact Jardine to receive a full credit toward the purchase of a new crib.  Jardine can be reached at (800) 646-4106 between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM EST Monday through Friday.
