The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall announcement for roman shades sold exclusively at Pottery Barn Kids. Six reports of children becoming entangled in the inner cord of the shade have been received.
The shade recall affects approximately 85,000 units nationwide. These roman shades were distributed by Pottery Barn Kids/William Sonoma, Inc. of San Francisco, California and sold from January 2003 to May 2007.
Among the six reports, four children were discovered with cords around their necks and scissors were used to remove two of these kids. Two children were found with red marks on their necks after they freed themselves. There were no permanent injuries from these entanglements.
The recall includes all colors and sizes of Pottery Barn Kids roman shades with exposed inner cords on the back. There are two sewn-in labels at the bottom edge of the shade. The roman shades that have a fabric covering over the cords are not involved in the recall.
Consumers are urged to stop using the roman shades and to contact Pottery Barn Kids to obtain a merchandise card for the purchase value. Pottery Barn Kids can be reached at (800) 492-1949 or visit www.potterybarnkids.com for more information.
