A single-vehicle car accident claimed the life of a Long Island man on Wednesday. The crash occurred on the Sunrise Highway in North Lindhurst, NY.
Forty-six-year-old Eric Shaw of Bay Shore was driving his Nissan Maxima near the 44th Street intersection when he lost control of the vehicle. According to witnesses, Shaw's car hit two light poles by the side of the road, flipped over, and skidded to a stop in an adjoining parking lot.
The accident took place just after midnight on Wednesday, July 14th. Shaw was was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was later pronounced dead.
The vehicle was impounded by police, and the investigation is still ongoing. Alcohol, high speed, drowsiness, or distracted driving may have been factors in the accident, but the exact cause of the crash is still unknown.
Our condolences go out to everyone involved in this accident, as well as the family of Mr. Shaw. We remind all Long Island residents to drive safely on area highways.
