
A Mattituck car accident involving a single vehicle and two horses leaves one woman injured and the horses dead. The incident took place at approximately 5:30 AM on Thursday morning, December 10, 2009, in Staten Island.
According to Southold Police, the driver was heading westbound on Sound Avenue near Bergen Avenue, when the two horses strayed onto the road and into the path of the vehicle. Maria Bua-Pamargo, 55, of Mattituck, was driving her 2009 Toyota when she struck the horses, which apparently got loose from a nearby property, and were heading east. Reports indicate that there were no riders on the horses at the time of the accident.
Rescue workers from the Mattituck Fire Department transported Bua-Pamargo to Peconic Bay Medical Center where she was treated for injuries sustained in the incident. She was later released. The extent of her injuries were not made known as of yet.
The horses were found dead when police officials arrived on the scene. According to Police Chief Carlisle Cochran, the horses got loose from nearby Strawberry Fields Stables in Mattituck.
The Mattituck accident is still under investigation by local authorities. It is unknown as to how the horses got loose from the farm.
