
A Massapequa car accident claims the life of an elderly lady when she was struck by a car while walking along the street in her hometown. The pedestrian accident took place at approximately 11:00 AM on Wednesday morning, January 20, 2010, on Broadway near Toronto Avenue.
According to the Nassau Police Department, the female victim, Rosalia Raia, 85, of Massapequa, was walking eastbound along Broadway when the accident occurred. That is when she was reportedly struck by an 18-year-old woman who was driving a 1999 Ford.
Rescue crews transported the elderly victim to Nassau University Hospital Center. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident from injuries sustained in the late morning pedestrian accident.
The driver was not reported as suffering any injuries in the accident. There were no other injuries reported. It was unclear if anyone else was traveling in the Ford at the time of the accident.
According to Seventh Squad detectives, the 18-year-old driver was not apparently breaking any laws when her Ford slammed into the elderly woman. Police have not released the name of the driver.
The Massapequa accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Police have not yet determined why the unidentified driver hit elderly pedestrian.
