
A Nassau motorcycle accident ends in the death of a 46-year-old man. The incident took place at approximately 11:45 AM on Sunday morning, November 29, 2009 in Franklin Square.
According to Nassau police, the victim, John Deiker, 46, of Franklin Square, was traveling northbound on Commonwealth Street on his motorcycle when he was struck by a vehicle, which was heading eastbound on Naple Avenue. The unidentified driver fled the scene.
Police found Deiker in the middle of the street with serious injuries. Rescue workers transported the motorcyclist to Franklin General Hospital. He was pronounced dead about an hour later from injuries sustained in the hit-and-run accident. Authorities have reported that Deiker was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
Officials have identified the fleeing vehicle as a 1991-1996 Buick Century. Police are still trying to locate the vehicle and its driver. It is unclear as to how many people were in the car.
“At this point, police are attempting to locate the individual who possibly struck Mr. Deiker,” said Homicide Squad Detective Sgt. John DeMartinis.
The fatal hit-and-run accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who may have information has been asked to contact Nassau County Police Homicide Squad at 800-244-TIPS.
