A Brooklyn car accident in Borough Park involving a school bus leaves a 4-year-old boy dead. The incident took place at approximately 8:00 AM on Wednesday morning, February 17, 2010, near the intersection of 13th Avenue and 49th Street.
According to authorities, the 4-year-old boy and his 13-year-old brother had just left their house for school when the incident happened. As the boy was running toward the bus he apparently slipped on some ice and became caught underneath the bus as the bus took off.
The bus driver claimed that he did not see the boy, even after he took off. The driver didn’t realize he hit the boy until he was flagged down by onlookers. Unfortunately, the 4-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The unidentified 32-year-old bus driver was driving for Yeshiva Bais Chaim Yoshua when the accident occurred. Police gave him a Breathalyzer test at the scene of the accident. They indicated that the man passed the test.
The fatal Brooklyn accident is still under investigation by local authorities. There were no immediate charges filed against the bus driver.
This is an unfortunate and tragic accident. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of this 4-year-old that needlessly lost his life.
