Maclaren Strollers Aren’t the Only Ones Found to be Dangerous

It was all over the news recently that Maclaren strollers were involved in a massive recall. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission sent out a press release on November 9, 2009 alerting consumers to a recall of about one million Maclaren strollers. According to the press release, there have been 12 reports of children who severed their fingertips on the stroller. These injuries were caused by the stroller’s hinge mechanism when the stroller was being opened or unfolded.

The recall involves all Maclaren single and double umbrella strollers, including the models, Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.

While this stroller recall has caused a lot of alarm among parents and caregivers, it is not the only stroller that has been identified as being dangerous. In August 2009, single and double strollers by Baby Jogger LLC, were recalled after it was discovered that the stroller’s restraint buckle could break or become unlatched, posing a fall hazard for infants and children. The Baby Jogger stroller recall involved approximately 41,000 units.

In June 2009, approximately 22,500 Bugaboo Bee strollers were recalled after the manufacturer received 121 reports of the stroller’s brakes failing. Although there were no injuries reported, it is frightening to think about what could have happened.
