Imagine going in for a common breast lift surgery and waking to find that the surgery was botched. That is exactly what happened to Maria Alaimo, 46, of Willowbrook.
Alaimo went to see Grasmere plastic surgeon Dr. Keith S. Berman for a breast lift procedure in March 2003, but the botched surgery left her with four “double-bubble deformities.”
Alaimo originally sought $5 million in damages. However, five members of a six-panel jury at the state Supreme Court in St. George awarded her $3.5 million for pain and suffering. She received $1 million for past pain and suffering and $2.5 million for future pain and suffering as a result of the surgery gone wrong.
“I really don’t believe that’s what the jury said,” Alaimo said. “I was like, thank God somebody actually believes me.”
