We all know that New York construction projects require inspections. These inspections are supposed to ensure that the building is safe for construction workers, as well as for future occupants. What happens when the building inspector commits fraud?
That is exactly what a New York City building inspector is being charged with. Michael Dinardo, 52, of Queens, has been charged with selling safety-training certificates to New York construction workers who have yet to complete the required training.
According to federal prosecutors and the city’s Department of Investigation, Dinardo frequently sold training cards to companies that then issued them to their employees. This year alone, Dinardo allegedly sold 45 training certificates to undercover officers.
If convicted, Dinardo faces up to five years in prison. He also faces up to $250,000 in fines.
As you can imagine, this is a serious allegation. The results can be disastrous, if unqualified construction employees are allowed to work on the city’s skyline. Construction workers can find themselves at risk of being injured in a
