Falling Asleep at the Wheel Can Kill

We have all heard stories about car accidents caused by people who fell asleep behind the wheel. It is more common that you might think. It is believed that thousands of car accidents each year are linked to drowsy drivers.

If truth be told, we have all operated a vehicle when we were drowsy. That is why several organizations, including the NHTSA, launched an investigation to determine ways to combat drowsy driving.

It is obvious that a drowsy driver may become impaired, causing reaction times to road dangers to become slower than normal. According to the Drowsy Driving and Automobile Crashes report, sleepiness can impair “reaction time, vigilance, attention and information process.” A drowsy driver may have a harder time trying to stay awake at the wheel. The results can be deadly.

If you or someone you know has been hurt in an accident and believe that a drowsy driver may be at fault, you should consider factors that include an accident at night, a crash that is more serious than it should be, a car that veered off the road, a driver who could not avoid the collision and a lone driver.  These could all be indications that the accident was caused by a drowsy driver.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a car, motorcycle or truck accident, caused by a drowsy driver, you should contact a Manhattan accident lawyer at the Law Offices of Rappaport, Glass, Greene and Levine at (800) 734-9445.
