Broken Hips in Nursing Homes in New York

Broken hips occur in nursing homes every day. Broken hips are often the result of traumas, such as a slip-and-fall or trip-and-fall accident. But the root causes of hip fractures are osteoporosis (which weakens bones), malnutrition, and overuse of medications.

When an elderly person in a nursing home breaks their hip, the injury can have serious consequences. Broken hips, post-fracture surgery, and the associated blood clots or infections can be life-threatening. In fact, about 25 percent of people over the age of 50 who break their hip die within the following year.

When an elderly person goes into New York nursing home care, their health and well-being becomes the responsibility of the nursing home. If the nursing home creates conditions that are conducive to a broken hip (such as malnutrition) or directly contribute to a broken-hip accident (for example, by failing to fix a slippery floor), then it is definitely considered New York nursing home abuse.

If you have a loved one in a New York nursing home, and they've suffered a broken hip as a result of the negligence of the nursing home, you may have a legal case against them. An experienced Manhattan nursing home abuse attorney can discuss your options with you.
