Alzheimer’s Disease Linked to Head Trauma

The worst is not necessarily over after surviving a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury.  Studies have shown that adults who have suffered from brain injuries could develop Alzheimer’s disease later in life.

Alzheimer’s disease is a devastating condition that is associated with memory loss, deteriorating cognitive abilities and dementia.  It is considered a progressive disease, meaning it only gets worse with age.

Researchers believe that the more serious a brain injury, the higher the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease years later.  A study found evidence showing that head trauma can potentially interact with other factors that would eventually result in Alzheimer’s disease.  A traumatic brain injury could also bring on the disease faster among people who were already at risk.

Unfortunately, Alzheimer’s disease isn’t the only serious medical condition associated with serious brain injuries.  Parkinson’s disease and dementia have also been tied to patients who have suffered traumatic brain injuries.

For more information on this topic, be sure to read the article, Traumatic Brain Injury Can Lead to Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Conditions.

If you have sustained a brain injury from a car accident, motorcycle accident, slip and fall or other event, you could be entitled to compensation.  You should contact the Manhattan accident lawyers at the law firm of Rappaport, Glass, Greene and Levine at 800.734.9445 for legal advice.
