Suffolk County Failure to Read X-Ray Attorneys

Nassau County Failure to Read Mammogram Lawyers

People rely on doctors, nurses and hospital staff to properly perform their duties and provide quality medical care. All too often, however, medical professionals make critical errors, which adversely impact the health and well-being of patients.

Two common medical errors that negatively impact patient care include the failure to properly read X-rays and mammograms. A failure to properly read X-rays and mammograms can have serious consequences.

If you or a loved one has been injured due to a misread X-ray or mammogram, contact an experienced medical malpractice lawyer at Rappaport Glass Greene & Levine. We represent clients throughout New York in a wide range of medical malpractice claims.

Mammogram Misreads

A mammogram is a low-level X-ray that is used to detect the presence of breast cancer. X-ray technicians may perform a screening mammogram or a more intensive diagnostic mammogram if a lump or other risk factor for breast cancer has been discovered. After a technician takes X-rays of a patient, a radiologist (physician) will then read the X-rays to detect lumps, masses and other possible warning signs of a cancerous growth.

Physicians who are reading X-rays must maintain a high level of focus. They must review a patient's history and risk factors for breast cancer, carefully read X-ray results, review previous X-ray results and order additional diagnostic tests if an X-ray raises potential concerns.

X-Ray Misreads

Patients may suffer serious injuries or even death when X-rays are not read properly. X-rays are a diagnostic tool that may be used to detect evidence of medical problems, including broken bones, fractures, lung cancer and pneumonia. Misread X-rays can create significant problems, including:

  • Failure to timely or properly treat a broken bone
  • Failure to diagnose a cancerous tumor
  • Failure to diagnose an illness, organ damage or disease

Physicians and hospitals may be liable for damages resulting from misread X-rays. If you have been injured due to a misread X-ray or due to another form of medical negligence, it is critical that you consult with an attorney as soon as possible to preserve your opportunity to obtain necessary compensation.
